An easter egg is a little "secret" funny thing that game developers usually put in their games, for keen-eyed nerds to find and laugh at.
Like an interface in the game 'Fallout 2' that has two serial numbers, TK-421 and NCC-1701.
We geeks laugh our asses off 'cause we know that TK-421 is the call sign of the Storm Trooper that Luke Skywalker and Han Solo knocks out when entering the Death Star; "TK-421, why aren't you responding?". And NCC-1701 is the serial number for Star Trek's battle cruiser 'Enterprise'.

Here is some of the easter eggs that have been found in WoW:

* The Zeppelin Master i Undercity is called Hin Denburg.

* In the Deeprun Tram in Ironforge there is an aquarium, which has a ?? level mob named Nessie.

* As a Horde player doing the First Aid quest in Hammerfall, the dying NPCs sometimes says: "Goodbye cruel world... I'm leavin' you today... goodbye... goodbye.. goodbye..." This is a quote from the Pink Floyd song, "Goodbye Cruel World"

* There is a weapon called Wirt's Third Leg (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=9359). In Diablo I, Wirt was a one-legged boy. In Diablo II, you used Wirt's second leg along with a tome of teleports, which opened a portal to the Secret Cow Level. It was a large field full of evil, super-strong cows.

* All the Wing Commanders in Alterac Valley have names of Pilot's Callsigns from Top Gun.

* If you ask an Ironforge Guard for the alchemy trainer, he'll sometimes say "Why, o'why didn't I take the blue potion?". This is a reference to the Matrix, where the main character Neo questions his choice to take the red pill instead of the blue one.

* The 3005 Punch Card Machines all have numbers on them, which in binary translate to various phrases, you can get the following:

"Thrall and Jaina sitting ina tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G"

"Tell your friends to play WoW"

"The gnome king wears night elf underwear"

* You can find 3 lost dwarves in Badland, who represent the Lost Vikings, one of Blizzard's old (classic) games. The two items that you must gather for the Indiana Jones quest they give are Staff of Tsol and Amulet of Gni'Kiv, which backwards each spells out losT and vik'inG.

* The quest that makes you go to Stranglethorne Vale and talk to Nesingway. The quest is called "Welcome to the Jungle", which is the name of a Guns 'n' Roses song.

* In Sunrock Treat there is a large tent. Enter it and find a huge peacepipe.

* In Dustwallow, there is an ogre named Draz'zilb which is Blizzard spelled backwards.

* The Ogre mages (in Tanaris) with two heads sometimes get in an argument and end up punching each other.

* Supposedly the Flight Master Trainer in Freewind Post (Thousand Needles) sometimes picks his nose and wipes it on the bird, then walks away all proud.

Don't forget the Zelda questline starting in Un'Goro, with some great quest parts like "It's a secret to everybody", Linken himself as a questgiver and of course the wonderful rewards, Linken's Sword of Mastery and Linken's Boomerang. There are lots of other Zelda related stuff in this questline as well, just too tired to remember all of it right now.
